Collaborating Partners

Greenwood County Community Foundation (GCCF) works collaboratively with all individuals and organizations that are interested in improving the quality of life in Greenwood County. The Foundation provides grants and funding to many local (and even national and international) charitable organizations. Large national foundations are inclined to provide grants to local causes through community foundations, and GCCF can provide that conduit. GCCF does not conduct annual campaigns but asks people to give to local worthy causes and institutions through the GCCF in their lifetimes and through their estate plans.

The Greenwood Partnership Alliance (GPA) was incorporated in 2003 as a public / private partnership between the County of Greenwood, the City of Greenwood, the Commissioners of Public Works, the Greenwood Metropolitan District, and multiple private businesses. The Partnership is set up to serve in improving the workforce and the quality of life of the local community.

The Self Family Foundation serves as an enduring charitable legacy, created by founder James C. Self and perpetuated by three successive generations of Self family members to benefit Greenwood, South Carolina and surrounding counties. Although the Self Family Foundation was created with assets generated from the operations of Greenwood Mills, the Foundation today is an entirely separate and autonomous organization, governed by a board of directors and operated by a full-time staff of three. Its mission is to encourage self-sufficiency among the people and communities of Greenwood County.

James C. Self built Self Memorial Hospital and donated it to Greenwood County in 1951. At that time, the hospital was among the most progressive in the country. The mission then was to provide a healthcare facility convenient to residents, reducing travel distance for treatment and visitation. The services and facilities provided have been greatly improved since then. Based on community need and the focus as a regional facility, Self is investing $133 million to improve and expand key areas. As a result, people receive top quality care and stay close to friends, family and home.
